Limavady Rugby and Cricket Club shine a light on mental health and resilience

The talk, 'Broken Crayons Still Colour', will examine the themes of human connection, mental health and explore tools for resilience for those who may struggle, raising funds and awareness for ALPS mental health charity.
Limavady Rugby and Cricket Club will be hosting a dedicated talk at the clubhouse about mental health and resilience with Frank Diamond on Wednesday 4 November at 7pm.
‘Broken Crayons Still Colour’ with Frank Diamond will examine the themes of human connection, mental health and explore tools for resilience for those who may struggle.
The talk will also raise funds and awareness for ALPS mental health charity, whose aim is to support better mental health for all.
Mark Hylands, Community Volunteer for Limavady Rugby and Cricket Club, encouraged the whole community to join the club at this event.
“Mental Health is in a way refreshing in a world full of labels, he said.”
“Illness doesn’t pay any regard to what identity we give ourselves or how others categorise us.
“Come along and support ourselves and each other. All are welcome and we can have a great night in each other’s company.
“These conversations matter. Let’s make the most of this opportunity.”
Frank Diamond, from Bellaghy, is a wellbeing advocate and keynote speaker for ALPS (All Lives are Precious), a community-based mental health and suicide prevention charity.
Formerly he was a missionary priest, who spent a decade working in Tanzania, Zambia and Nigeria before he left the priesthood.
He now travels across schools, sports clubs and workplaces delivering motivational talks based on mental health, building resilience, self-esteem and the power of human connection and gratitude.
ALPS was established in 2014 when a group of individuals came together to respond to the need for mental health awareness raising, training and therapeutic service provision needs within the community.
To date, they have engaged with 100,000 individuals in communities across Ireland.
Everyone is welcome to the talk and club players, volunteers and officials are encouraged to wear their club colours to show the community coming together for this important issue.
The talk is aimed at anyone 14+, including youth players, senior players, coaches and management, as well as other local clubs.
