KIRK Tweed is the inaugural winner of the Brian McCaffrey Memorial trophy following a successful first running of a new competition on Saturday.

Over 60 golfers teed up at Portstewart’s Town Course in memory of popular Portstewart man Brian McCaffrey who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Originally from Lurgan, Brian was a key member of the Anchor Bar Golf Society and remained an enthusiastic golfer up until his passing in August.

It was with that in mind that Portstewart friends Brendan Muldoon and Fergal Dunn came up with the idea of an event in his memory which led to a hugely successful outing at the weekend.

In the end, Kirk Tweed took the honours with a tremendous score of 44 points, one ahead of runner-up Neil Corrigan who finished with 43 points.

But the day was about more than the winning score as friends gathered to remember and honour the memory of a stalwart of the golfing community in the resort.
