Limavady among the top teams to advance in the BetMcLean Cup

Limavady has secured a place among the top teams to advance in the BetMcLean Cup, with the team set to face off against other top contenders in the next round of the competition.
THE Roesiders edged out familiar and former counterparts Annagh United last night in the first round of the BetMcLean Cup with a late 4-3 finish.
A trip to the BMG Arena for Limavady was a well and hard-fought victory against the Championship League leaders after a neck-and-neck match. Limavady were the first on the score sheet before Annagh levelled shortly after. Limavady edged ahead just after the break and then doubled the lead to extend the gap to 3-1.
An Adam Mullan red card saw the Roesiders down to 10 men, which Annagh were able to capitalise on as they were able to level out once again in the later stages of the night. But John Butcher’s second goal of the night was enough for his side to edge out the 4-3 finish.
Results across the country included: H&W Welders 3-1 Armagh City, Queens 1-1 Ballinamallard (Queens win by penalties), Dungannon Swifts 2-1 Bangor, Carrick Rangers 3-0 Newry City, Moyola Park 4-1 Dundela.
So, the teams that may be potential opponents for Limavady are:
H&W Welders, Queens University, Dungannon Swifts, Carrick Rangers, and Moyola Park. Additionally, the four clubs involved in European competition this season - Larne, holders Linfield, losing finalists Glentoran, and Coleraine - were awarded a bye and will therefore enter the tournament at a later stage.
It’s League action next for Limavady United as they are set to face fellow Bet McLean advancers Carrick Rangers at Taylors Avenue on Saturday. Limavady were unlucky last weekend, losing a late sucker-punch goal against Glentoran, whilst Carrick ground out a draw with Linfield FC.
