MLA interviewed by police over Garvaghy Road protest

‘Standing up for what is right is always the right thing to do,’ says Archibald
East Londonderry MLA, Caoimhe Archibald has attended a police interview in relation to September’s Garavghy Road protest.
The Coleraine-born Economy Minister was among several senior Sinn Fein representatives involved in protests staged as part of efforts to prevent a contentious Orange Order parade proceeding down the predominantly nationalist road from nearby Drumcree Church.
Last week Ms Archibald revealed she had received a letter from the PSNI referring to what she described as “the peaceful protest on the Garvaghy Road”
She added: “I will attend an interview in the period ahead”.
Ahead of the interview on Wednesday, she again took to social media with a short video clip.
“Today I am attending an interview with the PSNI relating to the peaceful protest at Garvaghy Road,” she said.
“I and Sinn Féin are proud to have stood with the Garvaghy Road community to protect 28 years of peace and progress.
“Standing up for what is right is always the right thing to do.
“Sinn Féin will not allow our society to be dragged backwards.
“There is no going back. Not now. Not ever.”
