Community outreach talk at Dervock Reformed

DERVOCK Reformed Presbyterian Church hosted another of its community outreach evenings on Tuesday 27th October, with the theme ‘Coping with Gambling.’

Commenting one of the organisers said: ‘Rev. Raymond Blair welcomed guest speaker Callum Webster from The Christian Institute, who delivered an informative and thought-provoking presentation highlighting the growing concerns surrounding gambling and its impact on individuals, families and wider society.

‘Among the statistics highlighted was an estimate that over 46,000 people in Northern Ireland are classified as problem gamblers. Reference was also made to University of Bristol research which recorded 15,571 gambling advertising messages during the opening weekend of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

‘Beyond the social and financial consequences of gambling, Mr Webster shared a powerful Christian message, drawing upon Romans 6:23:

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

‘The passage served as a reminder that, amid life's uncertainties and temptations, the greatest gift of all is freely offered through the Lord Jesus Christ.

‘Rev. Blair expressed his appreciation to Callum Webster for his presentation and extended his thanks to the custodians of Dervock Orange Hall for facilitating the evening and providing the venue.

‘The evening concluded with an opportunity for those attending to chat informally with the speaker and one another over a welcome cup of tea or coffee.

‘Another worthwhile outreach initiative, bringing people together in fellowship while raising awareness of an important issue affecting communities today.
