Former Derry defender Tony Scullion has been inducted into the GAA Museum Hall of Fame at a special ceremony in Dublin.

The Ballinascreen man was honoured at a reception hosted by GAA President Jarlath Burns in Croke Park.

Also recognised were two of his great adversaries from that golden age of Ulster football in the early nineties - Donegal’s Martin McHugh and Down forward James McCartan.

All three won All Ireland medals in that period when the province ruled supreme.

Down, with James McCartan on board, won the Sam Maguire in 1991, followed by a Martin McHugh inspired Donegal the following year.

Tony Scullion won his Celtic Cross as the Oak Leaf county claimed their sole senior All Ireland football title in 1993 before Down lifted Sam again in 1994.

It may be more than 30 years since all three were at the top of their game but the memories of their battles across Ulster and further afield will never be forgotten by anyone fortunate enough to have been around at that time.

Well deserved recognition for three of the finest players ever to grace the game.
