Peacock welcomes Active Travel Funding earmarked for Rasharkin

Scheme has potential to unlock Rasharkin footpath schemes
LOCAL Sinn Féin Councillor Leanne Peacock has welcomed active travel funding earmarked for Rasharkin by DFI.
Speaking after DFI met with Full Council on Tuesday night Cllr. Peacock said, "I welcome confirmation from DFI that the Minister is currently looking at directing some of the active travel budget towards rural active travel and connectivity schemes and that Rasharkin is currently being looked at for such a scheme on release of this funding."
"While there has been no confirmation on projects, I am hopeful that some of the long-awaited schemes such as the extension of the footpath between Ballymoney and Rasharkin, Footpath from Rasharkin to St.Mary's GAC at Dreen, and the connection of the footpath between Kilrea and Rasharkin will be included. These are projects that myself and the local community have been working on for years and until now languished on a long list of projects."
"I am glad that the Minister is looking at opening this funding to those in villages, who have less opportunity for safe and active travel than urban dwellers, and that Rasharkin is lined up for that money once released."
"I look forward to receiving further updates and timelines from DFI in due course."
