Causeway Coast and Glens Council is to award a £218k contract to private sector company for managing and enforcing charges at car parks across the borough.

Members of the council's Environmental Services Committee approved the appointment of Car Park Services Ltd for a three-year period.

The company will be responsible for enforcement patrols, cash collection, maintenance of machines and back office administration.

Staff will also issue Penalty Charge Notices issuing and “processing through to court proceedings”.

The £218,339 sum will cover a three-year contract period with an option to extend for two further years.

Inflationary increases will be added if the council chooses to extend the contract.

According to minutes of the behind closed doors committee meeting, the council's PR department will be enlisted to communicate differences with the existing arrangements to the public.
