Charity benefits from meeting of league champions and Irish Cup holders
The Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) has presented a cheque for £4,989 to its charity partners, Players Against Dementia, following proceeds raised through the Charity Shield earlier this season between Larne and Coleraine.
The donation highlights the continued commitment of NIFL and its clubs to supporting meaningful causes within the local community, with Players Against Dementia working to raise awareness of dementia, research into the disease, supporting community-based initiatives along with those affected by the condition.
The Charity Shield provides an opportunity for football to make a positive impact beyond the pitch, with proceeds from the occasion helping to support the valuable work carried out by the charity.
NIFL's Media and Communications Lead Gareth McCullough welcomed the fundraising achievement and the opportunity to support the organisation.
"We are delighted to present £4,989 to our charity partners, Players Against Dementia. The Charity Shield is an important fixture in the football calendar, and it is fantastic that the occasion can also make a difference away from the pitch.
"We are proud to support the work of Players Against Dementia and hope this contribution will help them continue their important work in raising awareness and supporting people affected by dementia. Thank you to everyone whose support helped make this donation possible."
Frankie Moffatt of Players Against Dementia expressed his gratitude to NIFL for its continued support.
"We are extremely grateful to the Northern Ireland Football League for this generous donation from the Charity Shield. The support of NIFL and its clubs is hugely appreciated and helps us continue our work around dementia awareness and support.
"Football brings people and communities together, and it is encouraging to see that power being used to support such an important cause. We would like to thank everyone involved in the Charity Shield and everyone who contributed to raising this fantastic amount."
The donation reinforces the positive role football can play in supporting communities across Northern Ireland, with NIFL and Players Against Dementia continuing their partnership to help raise awareness and make a difference to those affected by dementia.
NIFL would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the Charity Shield and helped generate this valuable donation for Players Against Dementia.
