Cushendall gears up for the Heart of the Glens Festival

Heart of the Glens hosts one of the biggest community festivals in the country

THE annual Heart of the Glens Festival - one of the largest community festivals in the country - returns to Cushendall this weekend and continues until Sunday August 10.

After the huge success of last year, the committee has worked hard to ensure this year’s festival is every bit as fun filled and enjoyable.

“Over 100 events will be taking place during the week in the village of Cushendall in the Glens of Antrim,” said a spokesperson for the organisers.

“A great variety of entertainment is on offer which will cater for all ages.

“Festival 2025 will start with a family fun day at the local RNLI station along with children’s events in the morning and the annual Heart of the Glens Festival Sheepdog Trials in the afternoon.

“This year’s Opening Parade will be better than ever.

“BeatnDrum Samba Band will lead the parade and we have exciting new attractions including a train and giant octopus.

“Events throughout the week include: Food Fest with live music from The Real Shindig, Treasure hunt, Children’s Workshops, Family friendly walks and talks, Fireworks and the ever-popular Glens Vintage Day.

“Friday 8th August is the ‘Theme Night’ Street Party - this year the theme is Dallywood Rocks Country. Put your thinking caps on and choose your favourite Western film, TV programme or country singer, alternatively you can dress up as a Rock Star.

“Recycle costumes that have been worn before. We would encourage everyone to come along and dress up for the evening. JUST DRESS UP and enjoy live music from Johnny Brady.

“For the sporty people among us there are lots of activities including: Children’s Sport Camps, The Glens Cycling Club ‘Festival Time trial’ and of course the famous Lurig Run, which is already fully booked.

“The festival concludes on Sunday 10th August with the annual Ping Pong Ball Race and Street Celli.

“The Ping Pong Ball Race will start at 6.30pm sharp and the ceili begins at 7pm.

“This year we will have the longest Shoe the Donkey as well as the famous Waves of Tory. Then enjoy live entertainment from The Cool Hand String Band.

“A full programme of events is available in local shops and the Festival Office at Old Schoolhouse, Mill Street, with regular updates on our Facebook page - Heart of the Glens Festival, Cushendall.

“We would like to thank our funders, without this funding along with the generosity of the public attending the events, the support of local businesses, donations and sponsorship received, the festival could not survive.

“Heart of the Glens Festival Committee would like to welcome all visitors to the Causeway Coast & Glens.

“Come along to our festival and join in with the locals and help create an atmosphere which makes our festival unique.

“Many of the events are outdoor and weather dependant - venues may need to be changed at short notice — notices will be displayed outlining any necessary changes.”

If you require any help or information, call into the Festival Office at the Old School House, Cushendall where the staff will be happy to assist. Telephone 028 2177 1378.
